<br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N N O. 11231 <br /> <br />FEB 2 6 1~90 <br /> <br />- - - - - - - - - - <br /> <br />RESOLUTION DESIGNATING APRIL 22, 1990 AS "EARTH DAY" BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council of the City <br />of Redwood City, that, almost twenty years ago, more than twenty million <br />Americans joined together on Earth Day in a demonstration of concern for <br />the environment creating an informed public whose collective action <br />resulted in the passage of sweeping new laws to protect our air, water, and <br />1 and; and <br />WHEREAS, in the nineteen years since the first Earth Day, despite <br />environmental improvements, the environmental health of the planet is <br />increasingly endangered, threatened by global Climate Change, Ozone <br />Depletion, Tropical Deforestation, Ocean Pollution, Toxic Wastes, <br />Desertification, and Nuclear Waste requiring action by all sectors of <br />society; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, EARTH DAY 1990 is a national and international call to action <br />for all citizens to join in a global effort to save the planet; and <br />WHEREAS, EARTH DAY 1990 activities and events will educate all <br /> <br />citizens on the importance of acting in an environmentally sensitive <br />fashion by recycling, conserving energy and water, using efficient <br />transportation, and adopting a more ecologically sound lifestyle; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, EARTH DAY 1990 activities and events will educate all <br />citizens on the importance of buying and using only those products least <br /> <br />harmful to the environment; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, EARTH DAY 1990 activities and events will educate all <br /> <br />citizens on the importance of doing business only with those companies that <br />
