<br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 11229 <br /> <br />FEB 2 6 1990 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF THE PENINSULA TIMES TRIBUNE FOR <br />ITS JOINT SPONSORSHIP OF THE ANNUAL OUTSTANDING CITIZEN AWARD <br /> <br />WHEREAS, fifty-five years ago, Floyd Granger the 1st Commander of American <br />Legion Post 105, conceived the idea of publicly recognizing the person who over <br />a period of time had been conspicuous for outstanding performance in the <br />community service arena, including areas of philanthropy, child welfare, <br /> <br />veterans rehabilitation and civic and community projects designed to make <br />Redwood City a better place to live; and <br />WHEREAS, the first presentation of the Outstanding Citizen Award was made <br />at the annual Chamber of Commerce dinner in 1935, and except for the World War <br />II years of 1941 through 1945, has been presented annually since that date; and <br />WHEREAS, in 1978 the Outstanding Citizen Award became a special community <br />event sponsored jointly by American Legion Post 105 and the Peninsula Times <br />Tribune, formerly the Redwood City Tribune; and <br />WHEREAS, the year 1989 marks the "Golden Anniversary" of the Outstanding <br /> <br />Citizen of the Yea~ Award, and this years winner will be the fiftieth recipient <br />of this distinguished annual award that has brought recognition and honor to a <br />deserving citizen and to our city. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Peninsula Times Tribune is to be <br /> <br />commended for sponsoring the Outstanding Citizen Award, and for assuming a <br />prominent role in recognizing the community service contributions of the <br /> <br />citizens of Redwood City. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br />
