<br />12/05/2006 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14749 <br /> <br />THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />ADOPTING THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA INTEGRATED <br />REGIONAL WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the voters have approved multiple statewide bond measures <br />since 2000 to fund water and natural resource projects and programs, including <br />$3.44 billion under Proposition 50, of which $380 million has been devoted to <br />projects that are part of an Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) <br />Plan; and <br />WHEREAS, voters approved Proposition 84 on November 7,2006, which <br />contains a total of $5.39 billion for water and natural resource projects and <br />programs, including $1 billion for IRWM, with $138 million of that amount <br />allocated to the San Francisco Bay Area; and <br />WHEREAS, the benefits of integrated regional planning for water <br />resources management activities include increased efficiency and effectiveness, <br />enhanced collaboration among agencies and stakeholders, and improved <br />responsiveness to regional needs and priorities; and <br />WHEREAS, state law and the Integrated Regional Water Management <br />Grant Program Guidelines (Guidelines), promulgated by the California <br />Department of Water Resources and the State Water Resources Control Board, <br />require that before IRWM grant funds are provided to water management <br />projects, the governing boards of participating agencies must adopt the IRWM <br />Plan; and <br />WHEREAS, several of the agencies participating in the Bay Area IRWM <br />Plan have jointly submitted an IRWM grant application for state consideration <br />and the Guidelines require that the agencies involved in preparing and <br />implementing the Plan must adopt the Bay Area IRWM Plan by January 1, 2007 <br />in order to be eligible for grants; and <br /> <br />A TTY/RESO/RESO.1663 <br />112106 <br /> <br />14749 <br />Formerly Muff # 802 <br />
