-- 2/8/99 <br /> ORIGINAL <br /> <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 13552 <br /> <br /> SUPPORTING WATER TRANSIT SERVICES <br /> TO THE PORT OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br /> RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Redwood City, California, that: <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the California State Senate has directed the Bay Area Council and Bay Area <br />Economic Forum to create a Blue Ribbon Task Force to form a regional action plan for water <br />transit on San Francisco Bay for the 21st Century; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said Task Force has been meeting since April 1998 and will issue a final <br />report in March 1999; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Port of Redwood City, in cooperation with the City of Redwood City <br />established a Fact-Finding Panel comprised of business, government and community leaders <br />from the South Bay to gauge the degree of interest in water transit services emanating to and <br />from the Port of Redwood City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, that Panel concluded overwhelmingly that the significant job growth in the <br />South Bay justifies this alternate mode of commute transportation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, that Panel also developed demographics showing the potential for <br />thousands of water transit commuters to and from the Port of Redwood City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the realization of water transit services at the Port of Redwood City can <br />benefit all cities of central and southern San Mateo County by reducing the number of commute <br />hour vehicles on our congested freeways, highways and roadways; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED and ORDERED that: <br /> <br /> 1. The City Council of the City of Redwood City enthusiastically endorses water <br />transit services at the Port of Redwood City, and hereby strongly recommends that the Bay Area <br />Council Blue Ribbon Task Force take the actions necessary to make this a reality; <br /> <br /> 2. The City Council of the City of Redwood City encourages the City/Council <br />Association of Governments, San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, SamTrans, Metropolitan <br />Transportation Commission (MTC), and all organizations, associations, businesses, and <br />community leaders interested in reducing traffic congestion in San Mateo County to work <br />together and with the Bay Area Council Blue Ribbon Task Force and the Port of Redwood City <br />to take the reasonable actions necessary to bring water transit to the Port of Redwood City for the <br />21 st Century. <br /> <br />Resolution adopted by the City Council of the City of Redwood City, California, at a regular <br />meeting held on February 8, 1999, by the following vote of the Council Members: <br /> <br /> <br />
