<br />RESOLUTION NO.~ 73 <br /> <br />OnJGINAL <br />OCT 3 0 1989 <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO <br /> <br />ST A TE OF CALIFORNIA <br />* * * * * ** * * * * * * <br /> <br />RESOLUTION URGING THE URBAN MASS TRANSPORTATION ADMINISTRATION <br />TO EXPEDITE THE PLANNING PROCESS FOR THE BART EXTENSION <br />TO SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT <br /> <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * <br /> <br />RESOL VED, by the City Council of the City of Redwood City, County <br />of San Mateo, State of California, that <br /> <br />WHEREAS, an earthquake, commencing on October 17, 1989, at 5: 04 p. m. , <br />has caused conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property <br />within this City and County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the earthquake has either damaged or threatened to damage <br />or threatened to damage the major highways, freeways, bridges and connectors <br />within the Bay Area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this condition has made transportation difficult in and through <br />San Mateo County, particularly for those Bay Area and County residents who <br />need access to San Francisco and the East Bay; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this condition has also made transportation difficult for <br />those who need access to San Francisco International Airport which is <br />located within this County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, adequate transportation connectors are vital to both the public <br />safety and the economic well-being of San Mateo County and the entire Bay <br />Area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the voters in San Mateo County have already approved an <br />extension of Bay Area Rapid Transit District rail services (BART) to <br />San Francisco International Airport; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the planning process for this BART extension is currently <br />pending before the federal Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMT A) ; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is vitally important that this planning process be expedited <br />as quickly as possible to help resolve some of the transportation problems <br />currently facing San Mateo County and the Bay Area <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council that: <br /> <br />The City Council hereby urges the Urban Mass Transportation <br />Administration to expedite the planning process for the BART extension to <br />San Francisco International Airport as quickly as possible. <br />
