I J 033 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN EXPORT <br />LICENSING OFFICE IN THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the value of United States exports subject to <br /> <br />federal licensing in 1988 approached $101 billion; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, of that amount approximately 25% was generated in <br /> <br />northern California; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, notwithstanding the foregoing, the nearest export <br /> <br />licensing office serving this area is located in Newport Beach, <br /> <br />California; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a local export licensing office would expedite <br /> <br />exports in the northern California region and thereby greatly <br /> <br />facilitate this nation's export business; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Business Development Commission of the County <br /> <br />of San Mateo has recommended to the Board of Supervisors of said <br /> <br />County that an Export Licensing Office be established in said <br /> <br />County; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this Council desires to endorse the establishment <br /> <br />of such an office; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />1. This Council does hereby endorse the establishment of <br /> <br />an Export Licensing Office in the County of San Mateo and does <br /> <br />hereby urge the United States Department of Commerce to extend <br /> <br />all reasonable efforts toward establishing such an office. <br /> <br />2. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to <br /> <br />transmi t certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable <br />
