GRIFFITHS ON RECEIVING <br />THE CALIFORNIA RESERVE PEACE OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR <br />MERITORIOUS SERVICE <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Peter H. Griffiths, Director of Parks, Recreation and <br />Community Services, won the prestigious California Reserve Peace Officer <br />of the Year Award for Meritorious Services for being instrumental as a <br />Reserve Commander in ma inta in ing the Reserve Un it's e ffec tiveness <br />through his activities in reserve officer recruitment, background in- <br />vestigations, orientation and coordinating operations of the Unit; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Peter was one of only 28 candidates nominated for the <br />Award from the statewide pool of 15,000 reserve officers who are all <br />citizens who donate their time and talents to their communities and are <br />trained to supplement the police force; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during his 12 years of service to the Redwood City Police <br />Department, Peter has volunteered 6,619 hours and, as an example of the <br />high quality of training and standards he has set, fourteen of the <br />eighteen reserve officers working for Redwood City since 1982 have gone <br />on to regular status with the City or other law enforcement agencies <br />throughout the State of Cali fornia; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in addition to his activities in the administrative area, <br />Peter has been active in patrol operations and assisted in establishing <br />the City's Park Patrol Program, utilizing reserve officers to patrol <br />parks and recreational facilities, resulting in a decrease of vandalism <br />and substantial savings in maintenance costs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this City Council desires to take this opportunity to <br />corrmend Peter H. Griffiths for his public service to the community; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS <br />FOllOWS: <br /> <br />This Council does hereby commend Director of Parks, Recreation and <br />Community Services Peter H. Griffiths for his years of devoted and <br />valuable service to the City of Redwood City and does hereby congratu- <br />late him on receiving the California Reserve Peace Officer of the Year <br />Award of the Reserve Police Officers Association. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />1 0923 <br />
