NOV 9 1981 RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING DELINQUENT UTILITY SERVICE CHARGE SCHEDULE FOR THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY WHEREAS, this Council has been advised by the Director of Finance that the City is expending significant amounts of time and effort in the collection of delinquent utility accounts; and WHEREAS, the Director of Finance has recommended that a service charge schedule for delinquent accounts be established to reimburse the City, in part, for the aforementioned time and effort expended; NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: 1. The City of Redwood City establishes the following policy for delinquent utility service ("utility service" is defined as the providing of garbage and water service) accounts; (a) A delinquent utility service charge of $10.00 be made for each returned check required to be processed by the City of Redwood City personnel. Upon notification of the customer involved, the customer shall make payment in the form of cash, postal order, cashier's check or certified check for the period of such delinquency. (b) A delinquent utility service charge of $3.00 or 5% of the unpaid balance whichever is greater shall be made when an account is issued a shutoff notice. The City may waive this charge if the facts of the particular situation demonstrate that there was a justifiable reason for the failure to make the required payment in a timely fashion. (c) A delinquent utility service charge of $20.00 shall be made for reconnection of utility service if a disconnection of utility service has been made for nonpayment of a utility bill.
