05/06/2019 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 15765 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY 1) AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INCREASE THE <br />CONTRACT AMOUNT OF THE MAGICAL BRIDGE PLAYGROUND <br />PROJECT, IF NECESSSARY, UP TO 22% OF THE AMOUNT AWARDED, <br />AND 2) APPROVING AN APPROPRIATION AMENDMENT TO FISCAL <br />YEAR 2018-2019 PARKS IMPACT FEES FUND TO INCREASE <br />EXPENDITURES BY $1,221,756 <br />WHEREAS, on October 22, 2018, the City Council awarded the contract for the <br />Magical Bridge Playground Project to Bothman Construction in their low bid of <br />$5,553,436, and authorized the City Manager to increase the contract amount, if <br />necessary, up to 10% of the amount awarded; and <br />WHEREAS, during construction, Bothman Construction agreed to work directly <br />with artist and fabricator Barbara Butler to construct the Magical Bridge signature <br />Playhouse, Ava's Bridge, Bridge to Upper Playhouse, Retreat Huts, and Buddy Benches; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, during construction, additional unforeseen excavation, subgrade <br />preparation, and outdated as-builts from the 1970s, which incorrectly showed misplaced <br />utilities, were discovered and needed to be corrected to complete the project. Project <br />costs are anticipated to exceed the awarded contract amount by up to 22%; and <br />WHEREAS, the Magical Bridge Foundation secured sponsorships for the overall <br />Playground project in the amount of $3,000,000; and <br />WHEREAS, unencumbered Park Impact Fees in Fiscal Year 2018-2019 are <br />available; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to authorize the City Manager to increase the <br />contract amount, if necessary, up to 22% of the amount awarded to perform the <br />construction of Barbara Butler's works associated with the Magical Bridge Playground; as <br />well as to perform additional unforeseen excavation, subgrade preparation, and <br />correction of underground utilities, and to appropriate available and unencumbered Park <br />Impact Fees for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 to accommodate completion of the project. <br />ATTY/RESO.0039/CC RESO AUTHORIZING CITY MANAGER TO INCREASE CONTRACT AMOUNT— MAGICAL BRIDGE PLAYGROUND PROJECT <br />REV: 04-24-19 DZ RESO.
