10/24/2016 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 15531 <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY IN <br /> SUPPORT OF MEASURE K, THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO EXTENSION OF <br /> THE EXISTING ONE-HALF CENT RETAIL TRANSACTIONS (SALES) AND <br /> USE TAX, ALSO KNOWN AS THE "SAN MATEO COUNTY CRITICAL <br /> SERVICES MEASURE" ON THE NOVEMBER 8, 2016 BALLOT <br /> WHEREAS , Measure K will be on the November 8 , 2016 ballot; and <br /> WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Redwood City recognizes the critical <br /> importance to further develop long—term solutions to the local affordable housing crisis ; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS , the City of Redwood City was one of the first cities in the County of <br /> San Mateo to adopt and implement an affordable housing impact fee on development, <br /> and has partnered with community non-profits to build affordable housing projects within <br /> its City limits; and <br /> WHEREAS, the one-half cent sales tax extension would generate approximately <br /> $85 , 000, 000 annually for 20 years; and <br /> WHEREAS, Measure K funds would provide additional funding support for <br /> affordable housing in the County of San Mateo and provide affordable homes for seniors, <br /> people with disabilities, veterans and working families (including teachers and first <br /> responders) ; and <br /> WHEREAS , in addition to funding affordable housing , Measure K will provide <br /> funding support to ensure San Mateo County residents' quality of life by <br /> retaining/improving critical facilities/services such as : enhancing public transit; combating <br /> human trafficking ; addressing sea level rise; maintaining safe schools and <br /> neighborhoods ; high-quality preschool and reading programs; park maintenance; and <br /> low-income healthcare; and <br /> WHEREAS , a majority approval by those voting in the election throughout the <br /> County is required for the measure to pass ; and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF REDWOOD CITY AS FOLLOWS : <br /> That the City Council of Redwood City does hereby support and endorse Measure <br /> K, the San Mateo County Critical Services Measure on the November 8 , 2016 ballot. <br /> Page 1 of 1 <br /> ATTY/RES0.0098/CC RESO MEASURE K — AFFORDABLE HOUSING FUNDING RESO.
