04/22/2019 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 15755 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO TEMPORARILY <br />CLOSE CITY STREETS <br />WHEREAS, California Vehicle Code section 21101(e) authorizes the adoption of <br />rules and regulations by ordinance or resolution on temporarily closing a portion of any <br />street for celebrations, parades, local special events, and other purposes when the <br />closing is necessary for the safety and protection of persons who are to use that portion <br />of the street during the temporary closing; and <br />WHEREAS, the same Vehicle Code section provides for the designation of a <br />public officer or employee by resolution with the authority to temporarily close a street for <br />the purposes stated above; and <br />WHEREAS, proposed amendments to City Code Chapter 33A (Uses of Rights Of <br />Way) would in part, amend rules and regulations regarding temporary street closures and <br />for convenience reference the authority of the Chief of Police to approve temporary street <br />closures; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council desires to designate the Chief of Police to approve <br />temporary street closures of a portion of any City street. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. The City Council hereby designates the Chief of Police of the <br />Redwood City Police Department as a public employee with the authorization to <br />temporarily close a portion of any City street. <br />SECTION 2.
