I N A L <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14089 <br />RESOLUTION URGING ENACTMENT OF FEDERAL AND STATE <br />LEGISLATION ESTABLISHING EQUITABLE, ECONOMICAL, <br />AND EFFECTIVE HEALTH CARE SERVICES FOR SENIOR <br />CITIZENS <br />WHEREAS, senior citizens in the City of Redwood and throughout the <br />Country depend upon local medical care provided through health maintenance <br />organizations ( "HMOs ") and health insurance carriers to safeguard their lives and <br />health; and <br />WHEREAS, skyrocketing medical costs, cancellation of HMO contracts <br />with medical providers, and drastic insurance coverage changes instituted by <br />insurance carriers threaten the health and wellbeing of all citizens, but <br />particularly senior citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, confidence in the healthcare system of this country <br />has been seriously eroded by the foregoing practices of HMOs, healthcare <br />insurance carriers, and healthcare providers; and <br />WHEREAS, the lack of confidence in the nation's healthcare system is <br />most severely felt by senior citizens who are powerless to obtain effective <br />replacement healthcare services in response to the disruptive and unpredictable <br />actions of HMOs, insurance carriers, and healthcare providers; and <br />Reso -1031 <br />DES:rg <br />R/S ha red /Redwood /Council <br />11/06/00 <br />
