10/8/01 <br />O R I G I N A L <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14 <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING AND ADOPTING POLICY <br />RELATING TO CONTINUATION OF SALARY AND BENEFITS <br />FOR CITY EMPLOYEES CALLED TO ACTIVE MILITARY DUTY <br />WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked the United States <br />by taking over commercial airlines and causing death, injuries and destruction in <br />New York, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania; and <br />WHEREAS, the President of the United States of America has declared <br />the terrorist attacks as acts of war; and <br />WHEREAS, both the President of the United States of America and the <br />Governor of the State of California have ordered various units of the Armed <br />Forces of the United States and the National Guard to active military duty; and <br />WHEREAS, employees of the City of Redwood City are members of such <br />military units and have been and more may be ordered to active military duty; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to both Federal and State law, employees of the <br />City of Redwood City who are members of either the Armed Forces of the United <br />States or the National Guard and are ordered to active military duty are entitled <br />to receive specified salary and benefits from their civilian employers for at least <br />thirty (30) calendar days; and <br />WHEREAS, the terrorist attacks and potential future incidents will <br />continue to cause unavoidable financial and emotional hardships for employees <br />of the City of Redwood City who are ordered to active military duty and their <br />families; and <br />F:Atty2001 Shared /Redwood /Council /Reso /Reso -1255 1 <br />
