3/25/02 <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14 4 3 0 <br />SUPPORT FOR ASSEMBLY BILL 2058 <br />THE BAY AREA REGIONAL WATER SUPPLY <br />AND CONSERVATION AGENCY ACT <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City and its residents and businesses depend on the <br />regional water system operated by the City and County of San Francisco for 100 percent of its <br />water supply; and <br />WHEREAS, the San Francisco regional water system is subject to catastrophic damage <br />in the event of an earthquake on the San Andreas, Calaveras or Hayward faults, exposing Bay <br />Area communities, including San Francisco, to extended interruptions in water service; and <br />WHEREAS, residents of the 29 cities, districts, and public utilities in the counties of San <br />Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda that depend on the water made available by the regional <br />system have no right to vote in elections in San Francisco and are not represented on the <br />commission that oversees operation of the regional system; and <br />WHEREAS, there is no multi- county governmental agency authorized to assist in the <br />financing of essential repairs and improvements to the regional water system (including seismic <br />strengthening), to encourage water conservation and the use of recycled water on a regional <br />basis, or to plan for and acquire supplemental water supplies; and <br />WHEREAS, AB 2058 would enable the local governments that are dependent on the <br />San Francisco regional water system and are responsible for water distribution in the three <br />counties to voluntarily form such an agency. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redwood <br />City supports AB 2058 and urges prompt and favorable action on it by the Legislature and <br />Governor. <br />F:Atty /Reso /Reso.1292 <br />031902 <br />
