6/27/2005 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14652 <br />RESOLUTION CALLING SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION AND <br />ORDERING SAID SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE <br />CONSOLIDATED WITH THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF <br />THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY ON NOVEMBER 8, 2005 <br />WHEREAS, in December of 2004, a vacancy on the City Council of the City of <br />Redwood City occurred by the election of then City Councilmember Ira Ruskin to the <br />California State Assembly; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of Section 9 of the Charter of the City of <br />Redwood City, on January 24, 2005, the City Council appointed Alicia Aguirre to fill the <br />vacancy on the City Council and said appointee shall hold office only until the next <br />regular election at which date a person shall be elected to serve for the remainder of <br />such unexpired term; and <br />WHEREAS, the next regular election is November 8, 2005, at which time the <br />General Municipal Election of the City of Redwood City shall be held; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to the provisions of California Election Code Section <br />10400, elections called to be held on the same day and in the same territory, may be <br />consolidated upon the order of the governing body calling the election; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redwood City desires to consolidate <br />the aforesaid Special Municipal Election with the General Municipal Election of the City <br />of Redwood City to be held on November 8, 2005. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY AS FOLLOWS: <br />Pursuant to the provisions of Section 9 of the Charter of the City of Redwood <br />City, a Special Municipal Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2005, <br />for the purpose of electing one (1) City Councilmember to the City Council of the <br />City of Redwood City to serve for the remainder of said unexpired term ending in <br />November 2007. <br />2. Pursuant to the provisions of Section 4 of the Charter of the City of Redwood City <br />and Ordinance No. 2078, adopted April 11, 1994, a General Municipal Election <br />shall be held on November 8, 2005. <br />3. Pursuant to Section 10400 of the California Elections Code, the City Council of <br />the City of Redwood City orders the consolidation of the Special Municipal <br />Atty /Reso /Reso.1545 14652 <br />060605 1 Muff # 307 <br />
