03/27/2007
ORIGINAL
RESOLUTION NO. 14772
A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY'S
CLASSIFICATION PLAN AND APPROVING RESULTING BUDGET
APPROPRIATION
WHEREAS, the current classification of Assistant to the City Manager is
intended to function in an administrative capacity within the City Manager's Office; and
WHEREAS, over the past six years, the position has evolved to address the
changing operational needs of the City Manager's Office; and
WHEREAS, a review of the position revealed that the job functions performed by
the current incumbent are principally outside the scope and class characteristics of the
current classification; and
WHEREAS, based on the analysis, it was determined that it would be more
appropriate to create a new classification that would more fully describe the scope of
duties performed by the current incumbent; and
WHEREAS, the new classification was drafted by the Human Resource and the
City Manager's Office to ensure it meets foreseeable needs of the organization (See
Attachment 1); and
WHEREAS, a classification and salary survey of other Bay Area cities was
conducted. The research revealed that positions that performed similar duties are either
classified as Assistant City Manager or Deputy Manager. Some cities have department
heads reporting to the Assistant City Manager. As this is not the case in Redwood City,
Atty/Reso/Reso.1690 14772
031207 Muff # 903
