12110/2007

ORIGINAL

RESOLUTION NO. 14825

RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SOLE SOURCE PURCHASE TRANE HVAC
EQUIPMENT, FROM PACIFIC COAST TRANE CONTROLS, FOR AN
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $287,000 AND SUSPENDING THE
REQUIREMENTS OF ARTICLE VII, PURCHASING, OF CHAPTER 2 OF THE
MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO COMPETITIVE BIDDING FOR THIS
PURCHASE

WHEREAS, the Main Library on Middlefield Road was last renovated in 1987 and

included the installation of a HVAC system; and

WHEREAS, the equipment is now approaching the end of its projected useful life and

the frequency of required repairs has increased; and

WHEREAS, replacement of the existing HVAC equipment is necessary and the

purchase of new equipment has been included in the current plant to renovate the Library; and

WHEREAS, City staff would like to purchase new units from the same manufacturer,

Pacific Coast Trane Controls, because the existing control system and installation mounts are

compatible and can be reused rather than replaced; and

WHEREAS, modifying or replacing existing controls and mounts to accommodate

equipment other than TRANE, would create delays and significantly increase the cost of this

project without adding value; and

WHEREAS, the City continues to install TRANE units at other City facilities, and the

increased standardization of HVAC equipment throughout the City makes repair and

maintenance of the units more efficient and economical.

NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDWOOD CITY AS FOLLOWS:

1. The recitals set forth above are true and correct and are hereby

incorporated by this reference as if fully set forth in their entirety.

2. Pursuant to Redwood City Code Section 2.76, the requirements of Article VII,

PURCHASING, of Chapter 2 of the Redwood City Code relating to competitive bidding are

A TTY IRESO/RESO.1767
120307

14825
Muff # 304
