MINUTE ORDER <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> <br /> December 7, 1998 <br /> MO. 98-286 <br /> <br />CITY CLERK DEPARTMENT <br />Redwood City <br /> <br />DATE: December 8, 1998 <br /> <br />Attention: City Manager <br /> City Attorney <br /> Finance Director <br /> <br />SUBJECT Authorization of Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) to Purchase <br /> Containers for the Collection of Yard Waste Materials as part of <br /> City's Residential Curbside Recycling (803) <br /> <br />Meeting of the Council of the City of Redwood City on December 7, 1998. <br /> <br />Present: Councilmembers Claire, Hartnett, Ira, Jordan, Leipzig, Vice Mayor Ruskin, and <br />Mayor Howard <br /> <br />Absent: None <br /> <br />The following motion was made, carried and entered on the Minutes: <br /> <br /> M/S Claire/Hartnett to authorize Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) to purchase containers <br /> for the collection of yard waste materials as part of Redwood City's residential curbside <br /> recycling program and to recommend that for the next six months conduct a survey program <br /> to identify other areas of Redwood City which are not participating and to encourage them <br /> to increase recycling and yardwaste disposal. <br /> <br /> There was further discussion regarding continual rate increases with only one year left to <br /> comply and low percentage participation, apartment renters and seniors participation <br /> potential and encouragement's, disfavor of future rate increase with only 11 percent gain in <br /> participation percentages for past three years, and the imminent need to gain a 14 percent <br /> compliance increase in one year. <br /> <br /> A call for the question resulted in the passing of the motion on the floor by a majority roll <br /> c.911 vote with Leipzig and Jordan voting hoe <br /> <br />Interim City Clerk ' <br /> <br /> <br />
