MINUTE ORDER <br /> CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> <br /> May 18, 1998 <br /> MO. 98-132 <br /> <br />CITY CLERK DEPARTMENT <br />Redwood City <br /> <br />DATE: May 20, 1998 <br /> <br />Attention: City Manager <br /> City Attorney <br /> Council <br /> Community Development Director <br /> Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Council City/School Liaison Committee (Council Members Claire and <br /> Hartnett and Vice Mayor Ruskin, Members) (605,708) <br /> <br />Meeting of the Council of the City of Redwood City on May 18, 1998. <br /> <br />Present: Councilmembers Bain, Claire, Hartnett, Ira, Leipzig, Ruskin <br /> and Mayor Howard <br /> <br />Absent: None <br /> <br />The following motion was made, carried and entered on the Minutes: <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Ruskin gave an oral report on the Committee's recent outreach <br /> activities "in the educational community to foster partnerships which will result <br /> in benefits to the entire community." He said, "a large committee was formed <br /> consisting of people from the County, the School District, from our City, <br /> including Council Member Hartnett and myself, and from independent sports <br /> organizations. Dave Stuart represented the independent sports organizations, <br /> and I really have to applaud Mr. Stuart for the work he has done recently to try <br /> to initiate additional fields and recreational activities for our youth." Vice <br /> Mayor Ruskin described the County's offer to expand the mufti-purpose rooms <br /> at Taft and Fair Oaks School to increase the opportunity for more gym <br /> activities. He said the County also offered to explore the use of its CDBG funds <br /> for playing fields and tennis courts. Vice Mayor Ruskin said that the County, in <br /> offering to spend funds to enlarge the multi-purpose facilities, asked that other <br /> groups in the community join in the effort. He said that he and Council Member <br /> Hartnett gladly joined the committee to see how the City "might partner with <br /> the County in this regard." Vice Mayor Ruskin said that the Redwood City <br /> School District has offered to pay for the maintenance of the enlarged gyms. He <br /> said that he and Council Member Hartnett, with the help of staff, endeavored to <br /> <br /> <br />
