07/13/2009 <br />ORIGINAL <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14952 <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING AND AMENDING THE CITY'S <br />CLASSIFICATION PLAN TO ADD TWO NEW <br />CLASSIFICATIONS; BUILDING, INFRASTRUCTURE, AND <br />TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR, AND PLANNING, HOUSING, <br />AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR <br />WHEREAS, from time to time, departments request new employee positions, <br />revisions to current job descriptions or new job classifications depending upon the <br />changing needs of city departments; and <br />WHEREAS, the Community Development Services Department has operated as <br />a single department with one Director Position to provide leadership for the functions of <br />planning, redevelopment, housing, economic development, building and inspection, and <br />engineering; and <br />WHEREAS, an analysis of these challenges and the current organizational <br />structure by the City Manager and Director of Human Resources provided evidence for <br />the need to restructure the department to ensure that the increasing span of complex <br />challenges can be met effectively; and <br />WHEREAS, the proposed structure requires adding two new director positions to <br />the City's classification plan and eliminating the current Community Development <br />Services Director position; and <br />WHEREAS, the Planning, Housing, and Economic Development Director will <br />provide leadership to the areas of land use, policy and entitlement decisions, and it will <br />provide oversight to the City's Redevelopment Agency; and <br />Atty /Reso /Reso.1929 14952 <br />070809 1 MUFF # 903 <br />
