<br />RESOLUTION NO. 248 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE, CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, CALIFORNIA, URGING <br />THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO APPBDPRIATE <br />$90,000,000 OF STATE SURPLUS FUNDS TO <br />CITIES AND COUNTIES TO ASSIST IN <br />CONSTRUCTION OF ESSENTIA~ PUBLIC WORKS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City has been advised by <br />the Department of Public Health of the Sta.te of California. that <br />immediate steps must be taken upon the termination of the present <br />national emergency to provide adequate se"Jage treatment facili tie s <br />in order to eliminate the present practice of dumping raw sewage <br />in San Francisco Bay, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the people of Redwood City have approved the <br />issuance of bonds in the amount of $300,000 for the construction <br /> <br />of a sewage treatment plant and intercepting sewers, and <br />WHEREAS, cost estimates prepared by competent consulting <br />engineers now engaged in the designing of said sewage treatment <br />plant indicate that the total cost of an adequate sewage treatment <br />plant with intercepting sewers and relief sewers may exceed the <br />sum of $450,000, and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City has no funds available <br />for meeting this additional cost of approximately $150,000, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the <br />City of RedwoOd City, California, that the Legislature of the <br />Sta.te of California be urgen tly requested to approprla te the sum <br />of approximately $90,000,000 out of existing State surplUS funds to <br />be disbursed to c1ties and counties in proportion to their 1940 <br />population and that the pro rata share of such funds which may be <br />made available to the City of Redwood City will be used for a pur- <br />pose l-tThich ls clearly in the interest of the State of California, <br />to wit: To ass~st in the construction of an adequate sewage <br /> <br /> <br />trea.tment plant ~Tl th intercepting and relief sewers. <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />1 <br />
