R E S O L U T I O N N 0. 622 <br /> RESOLUTION URGING VOLUNTARY CENSORSHIP OF <br /> OFFENSIVE COMIC BOOKS IN REDWOOD CITY <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Redwood City <br /> considers that distribution of objectionable comic books within <br /> the City of Redwood City constitutes a menace; <br /> N0W THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Red- <br /> wood City that the sale of all comic books now being offered to <br /> the children of the community should be discouraged if such <br /> publications introduce gruesome scenes of bloodshed, mangled <br /> bodies, and the like; present scenes of cruel or unusual torture <br /> likely to incite sadism; carry advertisements of products or <br /> objects which tend to contribute to juvenile delinquency; con- <br /> tain material which is offensively sexy; glorify or condone <br /> reprehensible characters or acts; or are marked by, or tend to <br /> create disrespect for law and law enforcement officers; <br /> FURTHER RESOLVED, that the said Council urges all local <br /> distributors to practice voluntary censorship over any obviously <br /> offensive publications. <br /> Passed and adopted by the Council of the City of Redwood <br /> City at a regular meeting thereof held on the 18thday of <br /> October , 1948, by the following vote: <br /> AYES, and in favor of the passage and adoption of the <br /> foregoing resolution: Councilmen: Britschgi, qranger, Holmquist, <br /> Morgan, Spillers, Swift and Werder. <br /> NOES, Councilmen: None. <br /> ABSENT, Councilmen: None. <br /> i( <br /> Mayor of the City of -e.woo• 61-17 <br /> Attest : <br /> Clerk o the City of Re•woo.
