ATTY/RESO.0042/CC RESO AUTHORIZING THE DISPLAY OF THE PRIDE FLAG <br />REV: 07-10-24 VR <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 16230 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br />CITY AUTHORIZING THE DISPLAY OF THE DISABILITY PRIDE FLAG <br />FROM JULY 16-26, 2024 IN RECOGNITION OF DISABILITY PRIDE <br />MONTH <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City has adopted Administrative Policy No. 53 <br />(the Flag Policy) that standardizes the manner in which the Flag of the United States of <br />America, the Flag of the State of California, and other flags are to be displayed at <br />Redwood City facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Flag Policy authorizes the display of flags other than the Flag of <br />the United States of America and the Flag of the State of California, or other flags (Non- <br />Governmental Flags) upon approval by the City Council by adoption of a resolution; and <br />WHEREAS, the adoption of a resolution authorizing the display of a Non- <br />Governmental Flag is an expression of the City Council’s official sentiments; and <br />WHEREAS, the resolution authorizing the display of a Non-Governmental Flag <br />may be adopted in conjunction with official actions, ceremonial items, or proclamations of <br />the City Council; and <br />WHEREAS, concurrently herewith, the City Council has proclaimed July to be <br />Disability Pride Month, in recognition and support of the disability community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City amended its Strategic Plan in 2020 to <br />include a Foundational Guiding Principle: Redwood City will put equity first, urging a <br />collective restart so that policies serve the entire community. The City continues to strive <br />to achieve its goals of making equity a priority, supporting inclusion, and engaging <br />stakeholders, and advocating for the disability community aligns with this important <br />principle; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council desires to display the Disability Pride Flag at <br />Courthouse Square from July 16-26, 2024, in conjunction with the 2024 proclamation <br />declaring July to be Disability Pride Month. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF REDWOOD CITY AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The foregoing recitals are true and correct, are hereby incorporated <br />herein by this reference as if fully set forth in their entirety, and constitute findings in this <br />matter.
