<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />OR\G\NJ\L <br /> <br />W4\ 23 'lQ <br /> <br />REf'_OLU'ItION NO. t;l~ <br /> <br />RESOLUTION CO~~NDING FIRE FIGHTER WILLIAM SOMMERS <br />FOR EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE OF DUTY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on February 7, 1970, at approximately 12:30 <br />A.M. (P.S.T.), william Sommers, together with other members <br />of the Fire Department of the City of Redwood city, responded <br />to an emergency call to investigate a reported leak at gas- <br />oline,storage facilities located within the City of Redwood <br />City; and <br /> <br />vn1EREAS, \~ithout giving thought to his own safety, Fire <br />Fighter Sommers ran through approximately thirty feet of <br />uncontrolled flowing gasoline to secure a valve which was <br />dispersing the dangerous fluid at the rate of 300 gallons <br />per minute; and <br /> <br />vrnEREAS, the timely and courageous action of William <br />Sommers in stopping the flow of gasoline preventeJ. a potentially <br />catastrophic fire.that almost certainly would have caused loss <br />of life and extensive property destruction; <br /> <br />NOW:r' THEREFORE; <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />1. This council hereby commends Fire Fighter William <br />Sonuners for his exceptional performance of duty requiring an <br />outstanding act of courage which prevented almost certain <br />loss of human life and extensive property damage in the city <br />of Redvlood City. <br /> <br />2. That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed <br />to transmi t a copy of this resolution to \~illiam Sonuners. <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />* <br /> <br />Adopted and presented by the Council of the City of Redwood <br />City on the 23rd day of March, 1970. <br /> <br />Robert H.
