Shepard,, Jr. becaiae the first <br />American to travel into space; and <br />I <br />VIBEREAS, the courage Commander Shepard exhibited during his <br />spectacular achievement has won him the respect and admiration of <br />all the peoples of the world; and <br />WHEREAS, such remarkable spirit and valor is deserving of <br />recognition by the people of this country; <br />NOVI., THEREFORE; <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF T11L CITY OF -REDWOOD CITY <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br />That this Council does hereby determine that the next appro- <br />priate street to be dedicated as a public right of way in the City <br />of Redwood City shall be named "Shepard Way" in grateful recogni- <br />tion of the achievements of Commander Alan B. Shepard, Jr. <br />
