REG:yc:1 /30/59 -7 <br /> R E S O L U T I O N N O. 2 <br /> RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING SEQUOIA UNION HIGH <br /> SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH JOSEPH MARVIN <br /> WHEREAS, nearly twenty thousand Thanksgiving Day football <br /> fans were treated to a thrilling display of the prowess of the <br /> Sequoia Union High School football team as it marched to a twenty - <br /> one to seven victory over its ancient rival, PaloAlto High School, <br /> in Stanford stadium; and <br /> WHEREAS this victory was of historic <br /> proportions in that t <br /> y P P <br /> a it <br /> marked the first time that the Sequoia Cherokees have had a nine- <br /> game undefeated season; and <br /> WHEREAS, this victory was a culmination of a hard - fought <br /> season in which the Cherokees won the South Peninsula Athletic <br /> League crown for the second straight year; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Cherokees are an outstanding example of collec- <br /> tive team spirit; and <br /> WHEREAS, Coach Joseph Marvin has coached the Sequoia Union <br /> High School football team to seventeen wins and has had only two <br /> losses since taking over as head coach; and <br /> WHEREAS, under Coach Joseph Marvin the Redwood City team <br /> has shown exceptional courage and talent, coupled with a fine <br /> sense of sportsmanship; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE: <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> AS FOLLOWS: <br /> 1. The Council of the City of Redwood City takes this op- <br /> portunity to congratulate the Sequoia Cherokees on their suc- <br /> cessful season and their winning of the South Peninsula Athletic <br /> League crown, and to congratulate Coach Joseph Marvin on his ex- <br /> cellent coaching abilities, and to commend both team and coach <br /> for the integrity and good sportsmanship that they have shown <br /> throughout the season. <br /> ,. .. .L <br />
