02/07/2011 ORIGINAL ORDINANCE NO. 2362 ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 20, ARTICLE VII, SECTIONS 20.95.1, 20.95.2, 20.132, AND 20.191 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO OVERTIME PARKING; ISSUANCE OF CITATION; PAYMENT OF FINE WHEREAS, parking violation fines are considered a civil penalty and may be set by the governing body of a local jurisdiction pursuant to Califomia Vehicle Code section 40200 et seq.; and WHEREAS, parking violation fines set forth in Article VII of Chapter 20 of the Redwood City Municipal Code regulate overtime parking, issuance of citation, and payment of fine; and WHEREAS, California Senate Bill 857, effective December 7, 2010, . amended Government Code Section 76000.3 to require the City to submit $3.00 per parking violation to the County Treasurer for deposit in the Trial Court Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to increase all parking. fines an additional $2 to maintain parity with surrounding jurisdictions; and WHEREAS, increasing parking fines by $5 will help the City maintain and/or increase its revenue stream by recouping redirected funds to meet its rising expenses. NOW, THEREFORE, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 20.95.1.0 of the Municipal Code of the City of Redwood City is amended, by adding the text shown in bold italics (example) and deleting the text shown in strikeout (e*ample), as follows: C. Any operator or owner of a vehicle to whom a citation has been issued in accordance with the preceding subsection may, within . . fifteen (15) (business) days of the time of the issuance of such citation, pay to the appropriate court, as a penaity for the full satisfaction of such violation, the sum of . forty dollars ($40.00).
