t .. <br /> • CGM: yc :5/4 <br /> COPY <br /> R E S O L U T I O N NO. b 4i <br /> RESOLUTION COMMENDING ALVARO MEJIA ON WINNING THE <br /> BOSTON MARATHON <br /> WHEREAS, the Boston Marathon which covers 26 miles and <br /> 385 yards attracts the premier long distance runners throughout <br /> America and the world; and <br /> WHEREAS, Alvaro Mejia of Redwood City has won this gruelling <br /> event which is America's greatest and most renowned distance <br /> race; and <br /> WHEREAS, in addition to his outstanding running ability, <br /> he is known by track fans and by his fellow runners as a "great <br /> guy" and he is always eager to teach young runners proper running <br /> techniques; and <br /> WHEREAS, Alvaro Mejia is planning to return to Columbia, <br /> his native country, and compete for the Columbian track team <br /> in the Pan -Am Games in Cali, Columbia, this summer and in the <br /> 1972 Olympic Games in Munich; <br /> NOW, THEREF ORE <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> AS FOLLOWS: <br /> This Council hereby congratulates ALVARO MEJIA on the <br /> occasion of his winning the Boston Marathon and wishes him <br /> continued success in all his future races. <br /> * * <br /> • <br />
