r <br /> •M :em 2/18/71 <br /> 4 <br /> GRiGINAL <br /> R E S O L U T I O N N 0. 6 '/s m 2" <br /> RESOLUTION RECOMMENDING PASSAGE OF AN INCREASE IN <br /> THE GENERAL PURPOSE TAX LIMIT FOR THE SAN MATEO <br /> JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT <br /> WHEREAS, the San Mateo Junior College District, one of <br /> the outstanding junior college systems in the State of <br /> California, is facing a financial crisis; and <br /> WHEREAS, increased enrollments at the three colleges <br /> in the district, decreased financial support from the State <br /> of California, and continuing inflation will prevent the San <br /> Mateo Junior College District from maintaining its present <br /> educational service to the citizens of San Mateo County unless <br /> other financial resources can be obtained; and <br /> WHEREAS, on March 2, 1971, voters in San Mateo County <br /> will be asked to approve an increase in the general purpose <br /> tax limit to assist in meeting operational costs'in the <br /> district; and <br /> WHEREAS, defeat of the tax proposal would leave the district <br /> short of operating funds as early as next year; would - <br /> necessitate the closing of two colleges, Canada and Skyline, <br /> in the district; would force the reduction of existing faculty <br /> personnel; and would deny at least 10,000 students entrance <br /> into this district; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> AS FOLLOWS: <br /> That the voters of San Mateo County are urged to vote <br /> a resounding "YES" at the polls on Tuesday, March 2, 1971 to <br /> increase the general purpose tax limit in order to maintain <br /> present educational services provided by the San Mateo Junior <br /> College District. <br /> * * <br />
