oz/o6/zolz <br /> ORIGINAL <br /> ORDINANCE N0.2376 <br /> ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING AN UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT <br /> IN A PORTION OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY; DESIGNATING <br /> SAID DISTRICT AS MIDDLEFIELD ROAD UNDERGROUND UTILITY <br /> DISTRICT NO. 2011-1; DESCRIBING THE BOUNDARIES OF SAID <br /> DISTRICT; ESTABLISHING WHAT UTILITY FACILITIES WILL BE <br /> MAINTAINED ABOVE GROUND; AND ESTABLISHING THE TIME BY <br /> WHICH POLES AND OVERHEAD WIRES SHALL BE REMOVED AND <br /> UNDERGROUND SERVICE PROVIDED <br /> WHEREAS, the California Public Utilities Commission ("CPUC") has authorized <br /> electric and telecommunication utilities to convert overhead utility lines and facilities to <br /> underground pursuant to Electric Rule 20 and Telecommunication Rule 32; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to certain criteria, CPUC rules allow participating cities to <br /> establish legislation authorizing the creation of underground utility districts within which <br /> existing overhead electric distribution and telecommunication distribution and service <br /> facilities will be converted to underground; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City, has adopted an ordinance authorizing the <br /> City Council to designate areas within which all existing overhead poles, overhead wires <br /> and overhead equipment associated with the distribution of electric power, <br /> telecommunication services and cable television should be removed and replaced with <br /> underground wires and facilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Community Development Department for the City of Redwood <br /> City has consulted with the affected public utilities and such utilities have agreed that <br /> the proposed underground conversion district, designated Middlefield Road <br /> UNDERGROUND UTILITY DISTRICT NO. 2011-1 and more particularly described in <br /> Exhibit "A" (legal description) and Exhibit "B" (boundary map) attached hereto and <br /> incorporated herein by reference meets the criteria established by the rules of the <br /> CPUC, to wit: <br /> (a) Such undergrounding will avoid or eliminate an unusually heavy concentration <br /> of overhead electric facilities. <br /> (b) The streets, roads, alleys, or ways in the district are extensively used by the <br /> general public and carry a heavy volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. <br /> ATTY/ORD.365/MIDDLEFIELD UUD ORD. # 2376 <br /> REV:01/10/12 FORMERLY MUFF 804 <br /> Page 3 of 4 <br />
