. <br /> MSR:dp:l/19/78 <br /> R E S 0 L U T I O N N O. 7 9 8 2 <br /> RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE MEMORY OF JAN 16, 1978 <br /> HUBERT H. HUMPHREY <br /> WHEREAS, this Council was saddened by the news of the death <br /> of Hubert H. Humphrey; and <br /> WHEREASo Mr. Humphrey' s remarkable career, which took him <br /> from city hall in Minneapolis to the United States Senate and <br /> to the Vice Presidency of the United States , was marked, not <br /> only by a legacy of landmark legislation including medicare, <br /> the Peace Corps and civil rights, but also by the sense of <br /> optimism, personal warmth and joy which he conveyed to all <br /> citizens; and <br /> WHEREAS , in his closing days Hubert H. Humphrey, the "happy <br /> warrior, " also imparted to the nation a sense of calm, couraqe, <br /> dignity and spirit; and <br /> WHEREAS , the nation will greatly feel the loss of Hubert H. <br /> Humphrey' s presence in the nation' s Capital, but perhaps most of <br /> all, will sorely miss his love for his nation and its citizens. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br /> AS FOLLOWS : <br /> 1. This Council hereby expresses its grief and sorrow at <br /> the loss of Hubert H. Humphrey and joins with the nation in <br /> mourning this loss. <br /> 2. This Council hereby, on behalf of itself and all citizens <br /> of Redwood City, expresses its sympathy and condolences to the <br /> family of Hubert H. Humphrey. <br /> 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to transmit <br /> a copy of this resolution to the family of Hubert H.
