<br /> DRB:djk 04/12/88 (# 6) <br /> l .;: dj k 05/16/88R <br /> DES:djk 06/06/88R <br /> 1969 JUN 2 0 1988 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 1969 <br /> <br /> --------- OiI(\ Iii.! ^l <br /> Ii u¡j:'ijt1... <br />ORDINANCE ADDING CHAPTER 15 TO THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO SMOKING REGULATION <br />THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION I. Chapter 15 is hereby added to the Code of the <br />City of Redwood City to read as follows: <br /> "Chapter 15. Smoking Regulation <br /> "Section 15.I. Findings and Purpose. The Council of <br />Redwood City hereby finds that: <br /> " (a) Numerous studies have found that tobacco smoke is <br />a major contributor to indoor air pollution; <br /> " (b) Reliable studies have shown that breathing smoke <br />exhaled or otherwise produced or caused by others <br />("second-hand smoke" ) is a significant health hazard, <br />particularly for certain population groups, including <br />elderly people, individuals with cardiovascular disease, and <br />individuals with impaired respiratory function, including <br />asthmatics and those with obstructive airway disease; <br /> " (c) Health hazards induced by breathing second-hand <br />smoke include lung cancer, respiratory infection, decreased <br />respiratory function, bronchoconstriction, and bronchospasm; <br /> " (d) Nonsmokers with allergies, respiratory diseases <br />and those who suffer other ill effects of breathing <br />second-hand smoke may experience a loss of job productivity <br />or may be forced to take periodic sick leave because of <br />adverse reactions to the same; <br /> 1969 <br />
