<br />4 <br />, <br /> <br />REDWOOD CITY PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />Regular meeting May 18, 1939 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />The meeting was cal.led to order .at 7: 35 p.m. by Chairman ~Mill- <br />~ngton. Absent: Vice-Chairman Spinas, Mr. Van Gundy. <br /> <br />,j <br /> <br />, <br />, <br /> <br />Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as correctêd. <br /> <br />PERSONAL APPEARANCES: <br /> <br />\..,; <br /> <br />Mr. Çlaude van Patten, director of the Redwood City Community <br />Players, suggested the commission might be intêrested in sponsoring <br />a play or series of plays sometime in the future, to be staged by <br />his organization, with the proceeds to gq t9 the commission IS build- <br />ingfund. He expressed the hope that ~h~ organization co~ld.be made <br />a part of the recreation system sometime". in the future.. He explain- <br />ed the advantages of adding dramatics to the recreation plan. No <br />action was taken. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE REPORTS: ~ <br /> <br />The committee on investigation 9f possible recreation center <br />sites reported that nothing,fûrther had been done, pending the vis- <br />it of Major George W. Braden of the National Recreation Association <br />May 24. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS: <br /> <br />MSC that previous verbal approval of the parks budget as est- <br />imated by Mr. 'Walsh be ratified. Discussion followed on Union Cem- <br />etery, arising from an item of $1200 al~owed in the parks budget <br />for cleaning up the cemetery. Mr. Walsh revealed that the expendi- <br />ture was virtually annual and ~esulted in the cemetery's being made <br />~esent~le for only-~out one ~n~ in ~e~ar. <br /> <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />MSC that the following recommendations be made to the city <br />council: <br /> <br />I <br />I . <br />I <br />J <br />.I : <br />. . <br />i <br /> <br />1. That further burials in the cemetery be prevented to as <br />great an extent as possible. <br /> <br />'-"" <br /> <br />2. That provisions be made for abandonment of the area as a <br />b~ial gro~d as near in ~e fut~e as possible, with an eye to ~e <br />eventual conversion of the area into' a municipal park. <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />3.
