Absent: Mr. Hagan.' <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Minutes of the p'revious meeting were approved 'as re"ad. . <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS: <br /> <br />'-'" <br /> <br />Mr. Morton reported that the yearly cost of lights to the ~ity <br />for illumination of Hawes Park for the softball season ainounts to <br />about $130. He presented a proposal by which m'anagers of softball <br />teams would pay their usual $25 entry fee, and then be given $10 worth <br />of season ticket'$ which they could sell for their own profit. Some <br />discussion followed. . <br /> <br />MSC that for the 1940 softball season at Hawes Park passes be <br />issued to the value of $10 to each softball team entered in the league, <br />upon payment of their $25 entry fees: that each team be permitted to <br />retain all receipts- from"', the sale of those season tickets, thereby <br />cutting the cost to each team to as low as $15; that the above act- <br />ion be taken with the proviso that it .may be rescinded by the comm- <br />ission prior to next (1940) softball season, should the commission <br />see fit. <br /> <br />" . <br />, <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Werder gave a brief report on the motion for acquisition by <br />the city of the O'Dea Tract. for a recreation center site, passed in <br />regular session by the city council. <br /> <br />Mr. Morcon reported satisfactory progress in the women's' singles <br />tennis tournament sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Redwood <br />City Aerie 418, and managed by the recreation department. . <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br /> <br />Mr. Morton reported that several organizations connected with <br />athletics have asked him for the use of the new department office, <br />at 2101 Broadway as a meeting place on various evenings. <br /> <br />"""". <br /> <br />'-J <br /> <br />MSC that Mr. Morton be given complete control of the office, to <br />do as he sees fit in arranging for the use of the building as a meet- <br />ing place for organizations in any way concerned with athletics or <br />other types of recreation, and to arrange for the development of the <br />building as an evenin~ recreation center. <br /> <br />MSC that the matter of transferring the control of the pistol <br />'range from this commission to the police department, in order to in- <br /> <br />s~e ~e maintenance of ~e facili~, be t~led ~i1 the Septe~er <br /> <br />.. .. - <br /> <br />.. .... . _. . <br /> <br />..,. ..~--. . , <br /> <br />. _.. --.., <br /> <br />,.........----..-..,.,..----,--- .... ,'.~___~h"'" <br />
