<br /> <br />REIYNOOD CITY Pl~~S A~TD.RECP~l~TION CO~íì\1ISSION <br /> <br />Special Meetingt December 13,1946 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The special monthly Ire eting of the Parks and Recreation Commission <br />was held on Friday, December 13,1946 in the Council Chambers of the City <br />Hall. Chairman E~er Ross called the meeting to order at 7,30 with the <br />following commissioners present: Poole. Buame, Spinas, Case. Alberson, <br />Scales, and Carls on. Connnissioner Bogie was absent and Mrs. Carlson <br />acted as secretary pro-tem. <br /> <br />Recreation Direotor 1~rton reported on the last meeting when a <br />delegation of yolmg folk asked for consideration of a Youth Recreation <br />Center. Several sug ~estions were made concerning building a ne" bltilding, <br />or renting an available place. <br /> <br />At 8,30 Councilmen Armstrong, Vlerder, Britschgit and Granger ap- <br />peared to discuss a Teen AGe Center with the Commission. The following <br />suggestions were drawn up to be presented .to the City Council as re- <br />commendations, <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />Construction of a B\rtler type building at California <br />Square. This location had been requested by members of <br />all the ~ity P.T.A. organi~at:on5as being most centrally <br />located and under police supervisi on. . <br /> <br />2. Rental of the Behrens estate on Jefferson Avenue if <br />available for rental. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />3. Rental of the, former City Library B:..Jilding, if available <br />for rental. <br /> <br />The motion was made by Commissioner Älberson and seconded by Com- <br />missioner Spinae t}"at these reconnnendations be presented to the City <br />Council on December 16. Motion carried. <br /> <br />At 9,30 1~. Francis Eritschgi, H. C. Mitchellt and A~e Jaoobs ap- <br />peared before the Cornmi s:~;ion requesting action on a pernanent location <br />for the Peninsula Celebration Association. ~T. Britschgi~requested a <br />site of a bout ten acres located in the industrial area of Redwood City, <br />and said the site should be used for many other recreation activities as <br />"Ne 11 a s th e F 0 \lrt h of J 111 Y rod eo. <br /> <br />Chairman Ross appointed ComITåssioners Spinas, Alberson, and Poole <br />to meet wit h the Ce lebrati on Committee and make reco:'!11!lenda.ti ons as to <br />possible sites. Further explanation of the 20-'Year l1aster Plan was given to the Coun- <br />ci I members present, and the m.otion "'.vas made by Commis sioner Alberson, <br />s'econded by Commis sioner 3pinas that the plan be submitted to the City <br />Cotlnci 1 for its approval. 1~otion carried. <br /> <br />Letter from the Maritime Co~~ssion was read, asking that a repre- <br />sentat.i ve be present a t a meet ing in San Francisco on, Tl1esday, December <br />17 when Yacht Harbors were to be discussed. Chairman Ross asked Co~~is- <br />sioner S9ales to see that a member of the Yacht Club attend this meeting <br />and rep ort back to th.e Cormnis sion. <br /> <br />A <br /> <br />Meeting adjourned at 10,30. <br /> <br />by <br />
