<br />REDWOOD CITY PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />Regular meeting, Fe broary 24, 1948 <br /> <br />. The regular meeting was called 1;0 order by Vice-chairman Scales at 7=45 p. m. .- <br />Presen~ were Commissioners H. M. S~a1es, Don Bogie, ~ Robb, Clem Baume, Jack Poole, <br />and Mae Kayo. Present also were Cl.ty Manager E. A. Rolison, and Director Alfred <br />¥Orton . <br /> <br />~ mintteø of the regular and the special meetings "ftere read and approved. <br /> <br />1It.. Wayne B. Reed presented a letter from the Community Chest of Redwood City <br />stating the conditions under which the Chest will give financial assistance to the <br />pro ject of moving a building from the Port 01 Redwood City to the Hoover School grounds <br />to be used as a public recreation facility. - <br /> <br />Commissioner Baume moved we refer the lette'r to . the City CO1.UlcU for action, with <br />a recommendation of our approval. The motion was seconded by :Mrs. Robb. Commissioner <br />Poole amended the motion to include - that responsibility for care of the building. <br />rest with the group using facilities at a given time and that each group be responsible <br />for any damage oc~g during its occupancy. The amendment was seconde d by Mr. Bogie. <br />The motion and amendment carried. <br /> <br />Commissioner Poole moved we go on record requesting the City Council to appoint a <br />C omm:i t tee compo sed 0 £ Council membe r ß, Re crea ti on C ommi s 5i on member,é, Planning Com- <br />missiC?n member, and one represen.ti ve each from Hoover, Taft, and Garfield school <br />areas for -ithe purpose of acquiring land for recreation use. The motion was seconded <br />by :Mr. Baume, and carried. <br /> <br />Mr. Bogie moved that a Ðommittee of two be appointed to confer with Mr. Morton <br />on rules and regulations governing the use of the building in Comrmmity Park. <br />The motion was seconded and carried. Chairman Scales appointed Mr. Poole and JAr. <br />. Bogie. <br /> <br />Director Morton announced that plans were being made for the dedication of the <br />building about June 1. <br /> <br />Director Morton presented specifications for proposed portable bleachers. <br /> <br />Mr. Baume moved the Commission recommend that the City Co1.Ulcil advertise for <br />bids for 1250 portable bleachers, (500 for Hawes and 750 for Community), as set forth <br />in the specifications. The motion was seconded and carried. <br /> <br />Reporting on Stafford Park, Director Morton stated that play areas had been set <br />up 82 feet from the northern boundary, and kickball, croquet, and volley ball games <br />installed. <br /> <br />Replying to the City Council's request for a reconunendation concerning the use of <br />Stafford Park, COIIDDissioner Baume moved that we re-af'firm our recĹ“mnendation alread.y <br />given to the City Council, nameJ,y; IIThat Stafford Park, until such time as the Master <br />Plan of Redwood City may be carried out, shall remain as a recreational area under the <br />direction of the Recreation Commission of Redwood City, with the provision that no bat- <br />ting 9£ hard balls shall be allowed, and iùlat no recreational activities shall be <br />allowed within twenty-five feet of the northern boundar;r of the rark.. <br /> <br />~; - <br /> <br />... .. . <br /> <br />-.. . -.-. <br /> <br />105 <br /> <br /> <br />,. , <br />
