<br />REDWOOD CITY PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
<br />Wednesday, June 4th, 1952
<br />
<br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was
<br />held at the City Council Chambers, Wednesday, June 4,1952.
<br />
<br />The meeting was called to order by Secretary Iriving Gold at
<br />7:45 p.m. Chairman H~ley arrived at ~:OO and chaired the meeting.
<br />Present were Commissioners Ralph Case, Andrew Spin as, Catherine
<br />Brennan, Eloise Campbell, Fred Hector, Hiram Stout, William Hanley,
<br />and Irving Gold.

<br />The minutes of the May 7th meeting were read with the follow-
<br />ing correction: Westwood Terrace development #1 should read Re~ood
<br />Terrace No.1.
<br />
<br />Commissioner Campbell reported a meeting will be held tonight
<br />with the Sequoia High School trustees relative to the fees and charges.
<br />
<br />Commissioner Hector reported that Westwood Terrace area should
<br />be completed very soon as far as the rough grading is concerned.
<br />
<br />Chairman Hanley reported on the train agreement with Mr. A. C.
<br />Layton which expired on December 31,1952, and if Mr. Layton plans
<br />to operate this year a new agreement should be drawn up. Mr. Layton
<br />appeared bet'ore the commission and explained how he has tried to
<br />build up the facilities he operates, and stated that his average
<br />income from receipts on the minature train ran about ~lO.OO per day
<br />when he operated.

<br />MSC by Commissioner Stout and Campbell that a letter be sent
<br />to the Ci ty Council recommending that Mr. A. C. Layton be granted
<br />the same agreement during the 1952 season as he had during the 1951
<br />season.
<br />
<br />Recreation Director A~red Morton reported of improvements that
<br />should:'b,e made at the Communi ty Park Swimming Pool some time in the
<br />future and that a committee should be appointed to investigate the
<br />over all plan. Chairman William Hanley appointed Commissioners
<br />Hector, Brennan, and Gold to the Committee with Mr. Hector as chair-
<br />man. They were instructed to gather the necessary information re-
<br />quested by Morton and report back to the Commission their findings
<br />at a later date.
<br />
<br />Chairman Hanley reported that he had several c aIls from local
<br />residents in the Community Park area as to when the city planned to
<br />install playground equipment for a childrens playground. Commi~oner
<br />Gold answered ChairmM Hanley with the plMS of the S~der report
<br />that will take in this area and will b e gi ven a priorty rating as ,~:.; all
<br />other park and recreation projects upon final study of the City Council.
<br />Commissioner,~ Stout recommended that plans should b e made to survey
<br />the entire city as to future playground sites. Commissioner Spinas
<br />reco~ended that we utilize all of the Re~ood City Elementary School
<br />grounds for playgro~nd use as they are set up in centralized areas of
<br />the city.
