ON MAY 3, 1961 '" The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chai~an Wallace Harder at 8:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Veterans Memorial Building. '" Following Commissioners were present: Chairman Wallace Harder, James 'Slobodian, Louise Tornell, Alyn Beals. Noted absent were: Jæmes Knecht, Maurice Schutz and Catherine Brenn8l1. Staff members p.resent were: Red Morton, Pasco Balzarini, wffi. She wry, entering later was Don Dimitratos. . M S C Beals and Tornell that the minutes of AprilS meeting be. approved as mailed. Letter from City Manager Neal was read, there~will be a comb1ned* re~lar and joint meeting ñth City Council June 8, at 7:30 P.M. in the Conference Room of the Veterans Memorial Building. Slobodian asked that recreation needs in Friendly Acres area be put on the agenda for the joint meeting. The Commission reco~~ended that a letter be written to City Council ~ asking them to adopt the proposed rates submitt~d by the Redwood City Municipal Marina Committee at their April 20 meeting. Commissioner Beals asked that a letter be written to City~Manager in regard to beautification of ~fuipple Avenue reco~mending that if no action has been taken that the Council re-activate the Tree Committee to carryon with this project. ". Louise Tornall reported on Fun After '50 Club stating that after July 1, they will begin a group that will meet in the evening in the Redwood Room in order to take care of some of the overflow, . me~ership being over 500. 110 ~mbers recently ret~ned fr~ a vacation in Hawaii. Balzarini reported the Rose and Flower Show was a huge success. He als a reported that the summer camp aJrea and oak trees have been sprayed for poison oak and th~t Ban Franklin had been seeded and he is now working on John Gill. Little leagues - Red reported everything is WJrking out well, all little leagues will be taken care of this year. Tornell said Schutz asked her to suggest the widening of running la,nes on Kiwanis field. ... The Commission asked that a letter be written to City Council recommending that they consider naming the field at the west side of Communi t~r,.' park, Griffin Field in honor of Frank Griffin, retired Physical~Education Director of Sequoia High School and outstanding leader of youth activities in Redwood City for past thirty years.
