PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22,2000 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Davis, Commissioners Joseph, <br />Slusser, Swope <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners LaBerge, Morton and Truscelli <br /> <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Don Baird <br /> <br />STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Gary Hover, Secretary Denise Monroe, <br />Manager Chris Beth <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order <br />by Chairperson Don Davis at 7:30pm in Room 5 at the Community Activities <br />Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />A correction was made to the February minutes under "Park Ordinance. <br />Updates"; the first sentence should state Iidog waste disposal dispensers". The <br />minutes were approved as corrected. <br /> <br />CORRESPONDENCE <br /> <br />The following correspondence was received: <br />-A newsletter from the Santa Clara County Audibon Society <br />-A copy of a letter sent by Director Griffiths to the Redwood Shores Tennis Club <br />confirming their 2000 tennis tournament dates <br />-A copy of a letter sent by Director Griffiths to resident Barbara Bower regarding <br />her concerns about the recent ordinance çhanges regarding allowing dogs on <br />leash in City parks. Superintendent Hover noted that staff recently received a <br />phone call from someone regarding the alcohol in the parks ordinance. <br /> <br />ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> <br />Mr. Don Baird of 3786 Farm Hill Boulevard spoke about his de~ire to have a 2' <br />wide asphalt creek level path installed in Stulsaft Park in order to make the park <br />more accessible to seniors. He showed a 20 minute video he filmed of Stulsaft <br />Park starting at the Parkdale Avenue entrance. The video followed the pathway <br />he would like considered. Mr. Baird also spoke about installing bridges across <br />the creek to help accessibility. Commissioner Slusser spoke about the history of <br />the community developing a bridge at Stulsaft many years ago. Mr. Baird also <br />suggested installing a bench on the road half-way between the restrooms and <br />the upper field for people to rest and enjoy the park. Chairperson Davis thanked <br />Mr. Baird for bringing his idea to the Commission and noted that it would be <br />forwarded to the Strategic Planning Committee for further consideration. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - FREE SWIM PROGRAM CONCEPT <br /> <br />Manager Chris Beth stated that he and Bob Yapp and Jeff Smith of Peninsula <br />Covenant Center (PCC) and have been exploring the possibility of developing a <br />joint swim program for children.
