<br />DES:yc:7/19/76-R <br /> <br />0 R DIN AN C E <br /> <br />N O. <br /> <br />] 676 <br /> <br />ORIGINAL <br /> <br />--------- <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING CROSS-CONNECTIONS <br />IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> <br />r¡ - c2 /, -- 7 ¿ <br />I <br /> <br />THE COUNCIL OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. <br /> <br />Definitions. <br /> <br />The following words or phrases <br /> <br />wherever used in this ordinance shall have the meanings respectively <br /> <br />ascribed thereto: <br /> <br />(a) <br /> <br />(b) <br /> <br />(c) <br /> <br />(d) <br /> <br />(e) <br /> <br />SECTION 2. <br /> <br />Backflow Prevention Device: A device incorporating <br />two or more check valves and an automatically- <br />operating differential relief valve located between <br />said valves, two shut-off valves, and equipped with <br />necessary test appurtenances, which, when properly <br />constructed and installed, prevents cross-connections. <br /> <br />City: The City of Redwood City, a municipal corpora- <br />tion of the State of California. <br /> <br />Cross-Connection: Any physical connection or <br />arrangement between two otherwise separate piping <br />systems, one of which contains potable water and <br />the other of which contains water of unknown, <br />questionable, or non-potable quality, whereby water <br />may flow from one system to the other, irrespective <br />of the direction of flow between said systems. <br /> <br />Health Officer: The Health Officer of the County <br />of San Mateo, who is hereby designated the Health <br />Officer of the City for purposes of administering <br />and enforcing this ordinance (or such other officer <br />of the County of San Mateo performing the duties <br />of said Health Officer), and his duly authorized <br />deputies, employees, or representatives. <br /> <br />Person: Any person, firm, association, organization, <br />partnership, business trust, corporation or company. <br /> <br />Elimination of Cross-Connections. <br /> <br />Every backflow <br /> <br />prevention device installed for the purpose of eliminating a cross- <br /> <br />connection shall be so installed subject to the approval of the <br /> <br />Health Officer, and shall be installed in accordance with the <br /> <br />requirements of said Health Officer. <br /> <br />The approval required here- <br /> <br />under shall be in addition to all applicable requirements of <br />ArticI~ (Plumbing Code) of Chapter 9 of the Code of the City <br /> <br />of Redwood City, and all amendments thereto. <br /> <br />1676 <br />
