<br />SWC:djc 9/12/85 <br /> <br />SEP 2 3 1985 <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />N O. 1 001 2 <br /> <br />ORIGl NAL <br /> <br />RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND PROCLAIMING COAST WEEK AND <br />CALIFORNIA COASTAL CLEAN-UP DAY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State of California has a varied coastline of <br /> <br />sandy beaches, rocky shores, productive estuaries, marshes and <br /> <br />tidal flats, urban areas and harbors; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the coast provides a rich scenic, recreational, <br /> <br />cultural and historical heritage; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the natural resources of the coastal zone are among <br /> <br />California's most important economic resources; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the marine environment is one of the most valuable <br /> <br />resources for recreation, tourism, fishing and other coastal <br /> <br />industries; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is strongly committed to <br /> <br />the wise management of the coastline to ensure that the <br /> <br />environmental and economic value of the coastal zone will be <br /> <br />sustained; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, preserving the productivity and quality of coastal <br /> <br />resources <br /> <br />requires <br /> <br />public <br /> <br />awareness <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />support <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />an <br /> <br />understanding that protection of the coast is a responsibility <br /> <br />shared by individual citizens, the business community and public <br /> <br />institutions; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />coastline <br /> <br />is <br /> <br />also <br /> <br />receiving <br /> <br />nationwide <br /> <br />recognition during the period of September 21 through October 12; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br /> <br />luOl2 <br />
