8/9/99
- ORIGINAL

ORDINANCE NO. 2179

ORDINANCE ADDING ARTICLES II AND III TO CHAPTER 1 TO THE CODE
OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY PROVIDING FOR ADMINISTRATIVE
CITATIONS. PENALTIES AND REMEDIES FOR COMPLIANCE AND
ADMINISTRATIVE ORDERS, RESPECTIVELY

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:

Section I. Findings.

The Council finds that

(a) The public interest requires the availability of administrative methods for
enforcement of the requirements of this code as an alternative to either criminal or civil
proceedings within the court system.

(b) Administrative citations and administrative compliance hearing processes
afford relatively informal, inexpensive, expeditious, and appropriate procedures for
dispute resolutions involving matters of local concern.

(c) The public interest requires the capability to impose administrative penalties
authorized under California Government Code Section 53069.4 as an alternative to
criminal penalties or civil abatement remedies. Administrative penalties are necessary
and appropriate sanctions for conduct violative of City laws needed to protect the
health, safety, and general welfare of the public, and they may be effective in inducing
compliance without invoking the more formal, expensive, and time consuming
processes of the court system.

Ord-067 ]
flshlshlRC/Council
:FXS:rg
1/99:06/21/99r
06/23/99 2:00 PM
07/16/99r
