From:Clara Jaeckel
To:publiccomment; GRP-City Council
Subject:public comment for 2/24/2025 agenda item 8A
Date:Monday, February 24, 2025 4:04:04 PM
For agenda item 8A, it's clear an impressive amount of work has gone into the budget and the
efforts to keep the city on an even financial keel. As we look at how to use our communal
funds, it’s critical to focus on the services that allow people to thrive, including housing, youth
programming, job development, public works, and recreation.
With that in mind, I'm concerned to see the number of parks and community center projects
having funding moved out of the FY 2024-25 budget. If this is considered necessary as a
short-term strategy, it will be key to keep tracking these projects and make sure they are not
lost from sight but confirmed to be brought back in the next fiscal year's budget, so that we
can get the benefit of well-maintained public spaces and recreation opportunities that play
such a big role in public health and public safety.
Also, in looking ahead to the next fiscal year, I was struck by the recent Daily Journal article
highlighting Half Moon Bay's Community Services Financial Assistance Program which
specifically dedicates funding to safety net services including homelessness and housing
support, health care, workforce development, and senior programs. I urge you to look at
including a formal program like this in Redwood City's FY 2025-2026 budget as well.
Thank you,
Clara Jaeckel
