Learn why this is important
Dear Council Members, My name is Richard Hedges, and I reside
across Mariners Island Blvd from two recently converted Longfellow
projects. Prior to construction we had several meetings with Longfellow
regarding issues for the neighborhood. They listened and solved the
problems that we thought might occur from the development. We were
very easily able to reach agreement with Longfellow. We have had a
very successful relationship and believe they will be a great addition to
Redwood City.
I have spoken with the Council in the past regarding Longfellow, but I
will not be able to attend the meeting. I will be out of town. Below are
points I believe should be considered.
· Longfellow has been working towards this project since 2021, and
their proposal still has not begun environmental review. I know
you will not be voting on March 4th, but Redwood LIFE Evolve
certainly merits the initiation of environmental study as soon as
possible.
· Longfellow has shown themselves to be the ideal development
partner Redwood City could ask for. Not only did they offer
an unprecedented community benefits package including a
contribution towards affordable housing far beyond what is
required, but they have also been listening and working in good
faith to satisfy community concerns.
· The 20% reduction in new square footage, and the elimination of
three life science buildings is extremely generous.
· This proposal is about more than just Redwood Shores, Redwood
LIFE Evolve is important for Redwood City because it provides
the necessary upgrades world class biotech companies need to
stay and grow in Redwood City and continue adding vibrancy
and tax dollars to our community.
· Finally, as the sensitivity analysis shows, this proposal addresses
the critical needs of stormwater runoff improvements and
increased sea level rise resiliency that are present on the site.
