proclamation <br />Recognizing Pride Month <br />June 2025 <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City recognizes the month of June to honor the history of the LGBTQIA+ <br />liberation movement and to support the rights of all citizens to experience equality and freedom from <br />discrimination; and <br />WHEREAS, all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. LGBTQIA+ individuals have <br />had immeasurable impact to the cultural, civic and economic successes of our country; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2020 City Council updated the City's strategic plan to include a Foundational Guiding <br />Principle of Equity: Redwood City will put equity first, urging a collective restart so that policies serve the <br />entire community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is committed to supporting visibility, dignity and equality for <br />LGBTQIA+ people in our diverse community; and <br />WHEREAS, it is essential to acknowledge that the need for education and awareness remains vital to end <br />discrimination and prejudice; and <br />WHEREAS, this nation was founded on the principle that every individual has infinite dignity and worth, <br />and the Redwood City Council calls upon the people of this municipality to embrace this principle and work <br />to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists; and <br />WHEREAS, celebrating Pride Month influences awareness and provides support and advocacy for the <br />LGBTQIA+ community, and is an opportunity to take action and engage in dialogue to strengthen alliances, <br />build acceptance and advance equal rights; and <br />WHEREAS, Outlet, a program ofAdolescent Counseling Services, empowers LGBTQIA+ youth and builds <br />safe and accepting communities through support, education, and advocacy. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Redwood City hereby proclaims the month of <br />June 2025 as Pride Month in support of the LGBTQIA+ community. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Progress Pride flag, widely recognized as a symbol of pride, <br />inclusion, and support for social movements that advocate for LGBTQIA+ people in society, will be raised <br />at Courthouse Square beginning Tuesday, June 4 for the entire month of June, recognizing all LGBTQIA+ <br />residents whose influential and lasting contributions to our neighborhoods make Redwood City a vibrant <br />community in which to live, work and visit. <br />Date: June 4, 2025 <br />Elmer MnrNnoa SnbaJlns, Meryon <br />Kara Eakin, Vca Mayor <br />�WG�� . <br />Isabella Che, C—if m mbar <br />JgffG—.
