Proclamation <br />Women's History Month <br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood Ciry designates the month of March as Women's History Month. American <br />women of every race, class, and ethnic background have made historic contributions to the growth and strength <br />of our Nation in countless recorded and unrecorded ways; and <br />WHEREAS, Women's History Month is a celebration of women's contributions to history, culture, and society <br />and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987; and <br />WHEREAS, American women have played a unique role throughout the history of the Nation as leaders, not <br />only in securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity, but also in the abolitionist movement, the <br />emancipation movement, the industrial labor movement, the civil rights movement, and other movements, <br />especially the peace movement, which creates a more fair and just society for all; and <br />WHEREAS, American women were particularly important in the establishment of early charitable, <br />philanthropic, and cultural institutions in our Nation and served as early leaders in the forefront of every major <br />progressive social change movement; and <br />WHEREAS, American women have served our country courageously in the military; and <br />WHEREAS, the success of our community is built upon the hard work of men and women. All too often, the <br />contributions of women go unnoticed. Women's History Month honors these women and recognizes their <br />contributions to history, society, and culture; and <br />WHEREAS, we commemorate all of the wonderful women of Redwood City; past and present.
