<br />Honoring Franklin Herrea
<br />Outstanding Individual
<br />WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City is proud to recognize individuals whose compassion, integrity, and
<br />dedication strengthen our community and uplift our youth; and
<br />WHEREAS, Franklin Herrera faithfully served the students of the Redwood City School District as a
<br />special education aide, where he is beloved by teachers and students alike for his authenticity,
<br />encouragement, and unwavering positivity; and
<br />WHEREAS, for more than twenty years, Franklin Herrera has demonstrated humble and uncompensated
<br />service to the children and families of Redwood City, always placing the well-being and development of
<br />youth above personal recognition; and
<br />WHEREAS, in 2002 at Red Morton Park, an interaction during a recreational soccer match reflected
<br />Franklin's true character prioritizing mentorship, sportsmanship, and the dignity of young players over
<br />competition and winning; and
<br />WHEREAS, that moment sparked a lasting partnership between Franklin Herrera and his longtime friend
<br />Noe Garcia, resulting in the formation of one of Redwood City's first youth club soccer teams under the
<br />auspices ofJuventus Sport Club, expanding access to competitive soccer opportunities for local children;
<br />and
<br />WHEREAS, understanding that financial barriers often prevent youth from participating in club sports,
<br />Franklin has worked tirelessly to ensure that children—regardless of their families' economic
<br />circumstances have the opportunity to grow, compete, and thrive through soccer and community
<br />connection; and
<br />WHEREAS, Franklin Herrera's gentle leadership, contagious kindness, and steadfast belief in young
<br />people have bridged communities, inspired resilience, and fostered belonging among families across
<br />Redwood City; and
<br />WHEREAS, his story offriendship, community, and resilience has been recognized in local media, further
<br />highlighting the profound and lasting impact of his service.
<br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, ELMER MARTINEZ SABALLOS, MAYOR OF
<br />REDWOOD CITY, on behalf of the City Council and the people of the City of Redwood City, do recognize and
<br />honor Franklin Herrera as an Outstanding Individual, and extends its deepest gratitude for his decades of
<br />dedicated service, mentorship, and positive influence on the youth and families of our community.
<br />BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that Redwood City celebrates Franklin Herrera's enduring
<br />commitment to inclusion, opportunity, and the belief that every child deserves a champion.
