Proclamation <br />American Muslim Appreciation & Awareness Month <br />April 2026 <br />WHEREAS, freedom of religion holds distinction as a cherished right and a fundamental value <br />upon which the law and ethics of the United States are based; and <br />WHEREAS, over 15, 000 Muslims live in San Mateo County and make innumerable contributions <br />to the cultural, political, and economic fabric and well-being of California and the United States; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, enriched by the unparalleled diversity of its residents, Redwood City takes great <br />pride in supporting individual religious freedoms and is strengthened by the many varied religious, <br />political, and cultural traditions and contributions of its diverse populations, including those that <br />practice Islam; and <br />WHEREAS, Diyanet Silicon Valley Ertugrul Gazi Masjid, established this year by Bay Area <br />residents from Turkey with the support of the Turkish American Religious Foundation, will serve <br />as a vibrant center for worship, education, and community engagement, to foster unity, cultural <br />connection, and mutual understanding among Muslims and the broader community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council acknowledges the importance of local government in promoting <br />harmony and understanding that Muslims everywhere deserve to live in peace and safety; and <br />WHEREAS, it is appropriate to acknowledge and promote awareness of the myriad of invaluable <br />contributions of American Muslims in California and across the country and extend to them the <br />respect and camaraderie every American deserves. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, I, ELMER MARTINEZ SABALLOS, <br />MAYOR OF REDWOOD CITY on behalf of the City Council and the residents of Redwood City, <br />do hereby proclaim April 2026 as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month to <br />acknowledge the rich history, contributions, and guiding virtues of Muslims and to commend all <br />Muslim communities in California for the lasting positive impact they have made toward the <br />advancement of our city and country. <br />April 2, 2026 <br />Elmer Martinez Saballos, MgYor <br />„� V <br />Kaia Eakin, Vice Mayor <br />kabella�Chu, Council Member <br />AgGee, Council Member <br />Diana Howard, Council Member <br />v <br />amrlln Paddle, Council Mmber <br />hrls Sairkm, Council Mamber <br />
