03/07/2011 <br /> ORIGINAL <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 15093 <br /> RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY <br /> AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO COMMIT THE CITY TO THE <br /> FINANCIAL AND LEGAL OBLIGATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH RECEIPT <br /> OF WATERSMART GRANT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE <br /> WHEREAS, no major improvements have been made to the City's residential <br /> water meters in twenty years despite new technology, new residents, and changing <br /> water -use patterns; and <br /> WHEREAS, Public Works Services is committed to implementing a five -year <br /> meter replacement program that will use new technology to help reduce demands on <br /> the City's potable drinking water supply; and <br /> WHEREAS, Federal funds are available through the WaterSMART grant to <br /> further this goal, and water districts are eligible to apply for such funds; and <br /> WHEREAS, Public Works Services has completed an application to share the <br /> cost of the meter replacement program with the US Bureau of Reclamation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Manager has reviewed and supports the WaterSMART <br /> grant application for submission to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation by the Public Works <br /> Services Department; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Public Works Services Department has the ability to fund its <br /> portion of the proposed meter replacement project through available Water Enterprise <br /> funds and through an inter -loan transfer. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> 1. The City Manager or designee will work with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation <br /> to meet established deadlines for entering into a cooperative agreement <br /> pertaining to the use of WaterSMART grant funds. <br /> 2.
