05/06/2013 <br /> ORIGINAL <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 15260 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br /> CITY APPROVING THE REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING GATEWAY <br /> MONUMENT SIGNS LOCATED AT THE SOUTHERN AND NORTHERN <br /> ENTRANCES TO THE CITY, ADJACENT TO EL CAMINO REAL <br /> (STATE ROUTE 82) AT CHESTNUT STREET AND AT CLAREMONT <br /> AVENUE <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City ("City") presents itself to the traveling <br /> public as a safe, positive and welcoming community through the use of existing <br /> Gateway Monument Signs; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City's existing Gateway Monument Signs at the Southern <br /> entrance to the City (located at Chestnut Street and EI Camino Real) and the Northern <br /> entrance to the City (located at Claremont Avenue and EI Camino Real) are in very poor <br /> condition and need of replacement; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City desires to replace the Northern and Southern Entrance <br /> Gateway Monument Signs, which requires submission of a Gateway Monument <br /> Proposal to the California Department of Transportation ("Caltrans") due to the signs <br /> location next to EI Camino Real (State Highway Route 82) and a City Resolution <br /> supporting said proposal; and <br /> WHEREAS, Caltrans is willing to issue permits for encroachment and sign <br /> replacement to public entities with signs contiguous to State highways for the purpose <br /> of civic promotion, provided that the recipient entity agrees to provide funding to <br /> construct and maintain such signs in good condition, free from graffiti, and provides a <br /> Resolution attesting that certain Caltrans requirements will be satisfied; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City has obtained a replacement design for the existing Gateway <br /> Monument Signs, obtained approval from Inter-Service Club Coordinating Council <br /> ("ISCCC") for removal and replacement of existing signs in favor of the replacement <br /> design, and obtained broad support for the new design from ISCCC and City service <br /> club providers at an ISCCC meeting attended by City staff; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City has secured funding to complete this project through the <br /> City's Capital Improvement Fund; and <br /> ATTY/RES0.2848/APPROVING GATEWAY SIGN MONUMENTS RESO.#15260 <br /> REV:04-23-13 MLG MUFF#610 <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
